Sorry, I just realized that was a different component. Just installed, now when I try to update the backend settings I get:

Warning: fopen(./components/com_booklibrary/admin.booklibrary.class.conf.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /../joomla/administrator/components/com_booklibrary/admin.booklibrary.class.others.php on line 139
Cannot create configuration file.

I assume it has something to do with permissions, but I don't know what it should be.

Ordinary that happened when some body manual change file/folder permissions

You need, with help cPanel, set for folder: {yours host}/administrator/components/com_booklibrary
permission: 666

And for file: admin.booklibrary.class.conf.php - set permission: 777

Can you install any other Components e.g. BookLibrary free ?

All look like you manual change permission for folder /mnt/local/home/guzzettg/giorgioguzzetta.net/webzone/tmp/ or some other parent folder, so Joomla or can't move, at install time, BookLibrary component to that folder or Joomla can't read that file from tmp folder.

Please set with help cPanel for folders webzone and tmp Rights - 777

Also you may Unzip book libray file to some folder and try install component with help
"Install from Directory"
