Does anyone know which file to edit to change the background color in category view? It's white and I wish to change it? Also need to know how to change the link color for the category view only, not site wide, only for Vehicle manager?

Most simply way - if you install FireBug - extension for firefox browser, with it help you will have possibility check how and where you may change CSS for set some style.
And after that add these changes to real file.

For category layout in Vehicle manager responsible file:
{yours site}/components/com_vehiclemanager/vehiclemanager.html.php

You need check function showCategories
